2001 BRITTANY RESCUE PARADE Story & photos by Linda Kelty LaSalle's Brittany Rescue on Parade was so wonderful. Teresa Richmond, President of LaSalle, announced that the parade was going to begin in a few minutes, when suddenly it dawned on me that I needed 2 people to handle my 2 dogs cause I was taking the pictures. I ran outside and found Ken Peary. He and his wife Chris had bailed out my newest foster Lace from Chicago Animal Control just one week before the Parade. Lace was in bad shape with major mastitis. Ken and Chris drove her to Lisle IL where one of the LaSalle members daughters was having a graduation party which is closer to my house. Aimee Schilling picked her up from Lisle. Seems there where like 35 LaSalle members at this party and before Aimee got there they where all trying to take care of Lace. All week long people called and emailed Aimee asking how Lace was. So of course we had to bring Lace to the Parade to show them all she was well on her way to a full recovery. I then grabbed Diane Requet and had her take Gracie in the ring. Diane has been bailing dogs out for sometime now for me. All the people who had helped Lace at the Walsh's home came in from outside to watch their little Lace and Ken. So many other people also stayed around ringside to cheer on all the wonderful dogs and owners. As we started Teresa talked to the crowd about just what ABR does, how we need all kinds of help, and how wonderful ABR is for doing all this work for Britts. A very nice man came up to Terri Capper and said he would handle one of her dogs for her. Come to find out later that he (Kenneth Heath) and his dog Suzannah's Queen Fiona Of Nevene took Winners Bitch and Best of Winners. How about that one? As Aimee Schilling read each dog's story there were cheers and tears all over the place. It was the best feeling to know everyone there was supporting ABR and all of us, the fosters and owners of the sweetest dogs in the world. I am so proud to say I belong to LaSalle Brittany Club, what wonderful, gracious people. You just don't know how deep in my heart these people have touched me. They opened the doors to dogs that don't show or trial that are just wonderful Britts that found forever homes. The members of LaSalle have shown friendship and a willingness to help in any aspect of owning a Britt and willing to help find them "forever homes". Not only did LaSalle open the doors to ABR but they are giving us a portion of the money raised from their raffle. All the people there were just so kind to us, some would come up to the table and as they started talking about what a wonderful job we are doing they would get all tearing eyed on me. Many filled out forms requesting newsletters and some said they wanted to help with fostering, home and shelter visits transport or more information about fostering. One woman as I was walking from the ring stopped me and told me to turn around (she was sitting down) I did. The next thing I know she is patting me on the back saying you all are doing such a wonderful job. I turned to her and thanked her. She then said it must be really rough knowing you are going to lose some of them. I said yes it is at times but when I have people donate prints for raffles and others offer to frame them for free and folks like here today giving us support that makes all the bad stuff seem not so bad. To know there are such caring people really helps me. I have always said that God helps those that helps others, and boy did he ever. The LaSalle Specialty had their largest show ever - 99 Britts just for the Specialty! Well, it turns out good things do happen to good people who care and help. The dogs & families that took part in the Parade are as follows: Sebastian, owner of Monica Witczak
